Electronic Arts (EA) has announced its acquisition of TRACAB Technologies, a known name in advanced sports optical tracking and analysis solutions, to enhance the accuracy and realism of its EA SPORTS titles.
The acquisition is expected to close in EA’s first fiscal quarter of FY26.
How will TRACAB improve EA’s games?
EA plans to utilize TRACAB’s technology in creating more lifelike animations and experiences that mirror real-world sports action. In a blog post, Cam Weber, President of EA SPORTS, stated,
“Our EA SPORTS games are becoming living, breathing simulations of sport, and TRACAB’s cutting-edge technology and expertise in real-time data capture and analysis will enable us to enhance realism, immersion, and engagement in all our experiences.”
The advanced sports optical tracking technology developed by TRACAB operates at 60Hz per second, generating 600 million data points per game, including 65 unique data points for each player and referee.
TRACAB’s technology captures live skeleton data from 21 joints on every individual on the field, providing insights that can heighten the realism of gameplay.
Martin Brogren, GM of TRACAB Technologies, expressed optimism about the acquisition, saying,
“Joining EA SPORTS marks an exciting new chapter for TRACAB Technologies. Our mission has always been to push the boundaries of sports data and analysis, and with EA SPORTS’ vast resources and vision for innovation, we’re confident that we can create even more immersive and dynamic experiences for sports fans around the world.”
In addition to enhancing the gaming experience, EA intends to utilize TRACAB’s capabilities to develop features that extend beyond traditional gaming scenarios. The EA SPORTS app aims to become the leading interactive sports platform globally, offering fans new opportunities to create and share sports highlights and predictive simulations.
TRACAB’s data capturing extends to providing near real-time insights for various stakeholders, including media broadcast teams, referees, players, and coaches. The integration is aimed at transforming player statistics, behaviors, and team AI with a new level of fidelity, further immersing players in the virtual sporting world.
