The new iPad mini leaked: Same looks as the iPad Air, but smaller in size

It leaks what would be the future look of the iPad Mini 6th generation. It would suffer the same changes as the iPad Air, adopting the design of the 2018 iPad Pro.

Since Apple’s announcement of abandoning Intel in favor of manufacturing its processors in MacBooks, Cupertino has been busy redesigning practically all its products. We have recently seen redesigned devices launched in some countries that until now had an almost untouchable aesthetic, such as the iPad Air or the iMac.

And now it’s the turn of the iPad Mini. Front Page Tech, the website owned by Jon Prosser, a famous leaker specializing in Apple, has published a detailed report on the future launch of the 6th generation iPad Mini. A redesigned iPad that would also arrive inheriting the baton from the next-generation iPad Air.

FPT ensures that this new iPad Mini will follow the aesthetics that started the iPad Pro 2018 and that has been spreading throughout the entire line of Apple tablets. In addition, this one may arrive with an Apple Pencil 3.

New iPad mini

This would be big news, as the last refresh the iPad Mini had was in 2019 and already many of us assumed that would be the last one we would see. According to FPT’s exclusive, the iPad Mini refresh would be virtually exact to that of the iPad Air; flat edges, relatively reduced edges, and most importantly: goodbye to the physical center button.

The new renders published by FPT made based on CAD models, schematics, and “real images” that the media cannot publish, show several interesting details. Measurements, according to FPT, of 206.3 mm x 137.8 mm x 6.1 mm, a single rear camera, USB-C, and Touch ID moved to the power button. In short, and as the report itself assures, this would be an iPad Air but smaller.

It would mount Apple’s latest mobile processor: the Apple A14 Bionic, the same that mounts the iPad Air. An SoC that would be just one step below the recently unveiled iPad Pro M1.

Prosser’s media sources also claim that the speakers have been improved and that it will not have the fun and varied color palette of the iPad Air, but will have 3 variations: silver, black, and gold. Something curious, given the fact that the iPad Mini is intended for the consumer as is the 24-inch iMac and therefore it was expected that this color strategy would be adopted.

An Apple Pencil 3?

Finally, this 6th generation iPad Mini would arrive with Apple Pencil support. FPT claims that their sources have talked about Apple Pencil support, but reviewing the leaked images, they have discovered that this would be smaller than the Apple Pencil 2.

This would imply two possibilities; that Apple would release an Apple Pencil Mini that would be the same as the model 2 but smaller in size or that it would be an Apple Pencil 3 with a size reduction. We won’t know for a few months.
