If you want to fix any Wi-Fi adapter problems on Windows 10 we are going to explain to you how to do it. We can connect to the Internet through many different devices. Computers usually come with a built-in network card, but an alternative option is to use a USB Wi-Fi adapter.

This way we can a have better performance. However, sometimes some errors may occur. We are going to explain what we can do if the computer does not detect the Wi-Fi adapter or there are some problems with the connection.

How to fix any Wi-Fi adapter problems on Windows 10?

Sometimes network devices do not work properly. The problem can be caused by different reasons. It may simply be a misconfiguration, a system incompatibility problem, outdated drivers.

However, in most cases, the problem can be easily solved. Small changes we make to our computer can allow us to browse normally and connect to the Wi-Fi network without any problem.

Restart the computer

This is something basic but that on many occasions it is just enough to restart the computer. We can turn off the computer and turn it on again to see if the problem is solved. We can also do the same with the router.

To reboot the router, it is not enough to turn it off and then on again. The ideal method is to keep it turned off for at least 30 seconds and then turn it on. This way the reboot will be done correctly and we will be able to see if the problem still appears.

Update the drivers

Sometimes a problem like this is related to the drivers. We must always keep the latest versions and make sure that the operating system detects the device correctly. This way, we will achieve optimal performance, but it is also necessary to avoid security problems that could be exploited by hackers.

To update the drivers we have to go to Start, go to Device Manager, click on Network adapters, look for the corresponding adapter, right-click on it and click on Update driver. We recommend doing this periodically, even if we do not notice any errors.

Disabling the device

Another step that could help us is to disable and re-enable the device. This way we can get Windows to detect the device correctly again. We go back to Start, Device Manager, Network Adapters, choose the appropriate one and this time we click Disable device and then re-enable it.

Try another USB port

There may also be a solution as simple as trying a different USB port. Sometimes there may be a problem with the port we are using, the computer might not detect it correctly. Nowadays computers usually have several ports available, and there are even differences between version 2.0 and 3.0 that could be the cause of this error.

Simply by trying to connect the USB Wi-Fi adapter to another port, we can see if this is causing the problem.

See if power saving mode is enabled

Windows 10 allows you to configure the power consumption to save battery. This is useful, but it could also bring problems. To solve this problem we must enter the Control Panel, go to Hardware and Sound, Power Options. Enter to Change plan settings and Change advanced power settings. We have to click on USB Settings and USB Selective Suspend Settings. By default it is enabled, so we can try to disable it.

Check if the firewall or antivirus are interfering

Security tools are very important in our computers. They prevent most of the threats that cause security problems. But that antiviruses might bring some errors too. Therefore, we must check especially if the firewall and antivirus are well configured.

Check the Wi-Fi bandwidth

Modern devices allow us to connect through the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bandwidths. Both of them have their advantages depending on the circumstances. The former is ideal if we are connecting at a considerable distance from the router, while the latter offers the best speed.

Another solution is to change the bandwidth to see if the problem is solved or not. In short, these are some of the main steps to take in case we have problems with the USB Wi-Fi adapter. A series of simple solutions that we can carry out on our equipment.
