With only 2 years of life, the Huawei Mate 20 will not receive any more updates.
While manufacturers like Xiaomi and Samsung were advancing their Mi 11 and Galaxy S21, the others are still working on preparing the missing updates to Android 11.
The Huawei Mate 20 will not receive any more updates
In fact, these days we have already seen a leaked Xiaomi roadmap for the arrival of MIUI 12.5, also Sony updated Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 early. Although the truth is that we all remain expectant to see what happens with a Huawei still in trouble with the U.S. government, immersed in completing the arrival of HarmonyOS and with the great unknown of the Android updates that should be coming to their current devices, whether or not they are certified by Google.
Surely to derive resources to HarmonyOS, Huawei begins to abandon the support of high ranges like the Mate 20.
Few details are known for now, only the intention of the Chinese giant to keep at least the Android bases and security patches updated, and then install their own Huawei Mobile Services and use what is practically already a Google operating system fork.
Following information published directly by AnTuTu, it seems that one of the most successful Huawei families in recent years, within the highest range, will be discontinued and without support only two years after being born… We’re talking about the whole Huawei Mate 20 family!
And yes, one of the most successful and one of the most sold mobiles by Huawei in the last years, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, ceases from now on its support of updates like its brothers, staying anchored in the current compilation of EMUI except for only one model.
This device will continue to receive updates, at least for now and in the short term, is the only mobile with 5G connectivity of the whole family, the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G, although we do not predict much future seeing the movements around the Chinese giant.
According to the information we have right now, it seems that there won’t even be security updates, because Huawei has removed them directly from the lists of devices with pending EMUI updates, on its website for China.
The reasons are not known, in fact, Huawei has not even responded to AnTuTu’s publication, but everything seems to indicate that the Chinese giant is restructuring its strategies and its teams, surely to divert resources to the last steps of the development of a HarmonyOS platform that should arrive very soon.
Also, and in case any of you were still holding out hope, Huawei is keeping all the Mate 20’s on the list of EMUI 11 compatible mobiles, with no changes on the front, so it certainly looks like this will be the last firmware version that its users will be able to use, based on Android 10 and with the certainty that they will not receive Android 11 at least officially.
Bad news on the front for Huawei, which has still not been able to make headway in international markets despite the defeat of Donald Trump, something that for now has not brought them any better news either… We will see what happens after the transfer of power, but from China, they are already announcing that the steps taken cannot be reversed!
