Samsung’s SmartThings platform is already active in Android Auto and allows you to access smart devices at home.
You can access your home devices with Android Auto
Last week the agreement between Samsung and Google to implement the SmartThings platform within Android Auto was announced and, as reported, activation has been quick and many users can use it. It is now possible to access smart home devices from the car screen.
If on Thursday this agreement between both companies will take place, the new version of SmartThings will be incorporated into the Play Store that gives access to Android Auto. This platform is the existing one within Samsung’s ecosystem to use smart devices from the cell phone.
As it is compatible with Android Auto, it is possible to use it from the car screen and configure the smart lock, the vacuum cleaner robot, the cameras, light bulbs… Whatever smart device you have at home is configured with the platform.
According to Android Police, the version compatible with Android Auto is SmartThings v1.7.59.23. This has not yet been fully implemented in Play Store, but you can access the version in development that will soon be released for everyone through APKMirror.
Once installed, you can enter SmartThings from Android Auto and it will appear as if it were one more option within the main menu of the screen, to access any of the devices you want to use, although they warn that only a maximum of 6 is allowed at the moment.
In this way, not only the devices you want to access but also the notifications that they send are received, as if the surveillance camera detects someone or if our robot has just cleaned the floor. It has been sought that everything is as simple and accessible as possible for users in order not to find reticence on the part of these.
This implementation is another effort to establish Android Auto as the preferred option within vehicles. In case you still don’t have it available by default, it will soon arrive, but through the access, we have shown you you can already use it.
