After removing three posts by the U.S. president, claiming they incited hatred, Twitter has locked Donald Trump’s account for 12 hours. This means that the profile cannot post, share, or interact with any of the content within this time. The platform also assured that if the current U.S. president commits another infraction against its policy of conduct, his profile will be removed from the social network.

Twitter has locked the account of Donald Trump for 12 hours
2021 does not seem to have started off as well as some expected in the United States. A speech by U.S. President Donald Trump this afternoon on January 6 sparked riots by his supporters who took over the capitol. In the midst of all this, Twitter has added new warnings to Trump’s messages and tweets, amidst episodes of violence in the country. The social network has now blocked two of his tweets, calling them a “risk of violence.”

The warning also appears every time someone tries to share or like any tweets posted by Trump.
Anticipating the millions of Trump followers who will question the social network’s decision, through its @TwitSafety account, the social media responded that given the latest events it is significantly restricting the scope of the Tweets labeled in their Civic Integrity Policy due to the risk of violence. More importantly, the social network said it is exploring other ways to escalate actions.
In regard to the ongoing situation in Washington, D.C., we are working proactively to protect the health of the public conversation occurring on the service and will take action on any content that violates the Twitter Rules.

This is not the first time that Twitter has taken action against Trump’s posts. During the U.S. election, the platform created a label for especially for this situation. However, it is the first time that the social network directly claims that one of the current U.S. president’s posts incite violence. More importantly, they promise certain actions we might see in the future, for the first time in history, a president’s account is locked.
It is a claim that has been made on Twitter to Facebook. Since the events in the 2020 elections, many assure that in the case of Donald Trump’s account the labels are no longer sufficient and it is necessary to limit the false information even more.
