How to prevent strangers from texting you on Telegram? If from time to time you receive messages in Telegram from complete strangers, and you would like to prevent this, the good news is that it is possible and we are going to show you how.

In Telegram, you can contact other people by phone number or by username. Having a username is very useful, as it allows you to chat with other people without revealing your phone number, but it has the side effect that you can appear in searches and be written to by strangers. Automatically archive unknown chats

Most messaging applications have a normal inbox that serves as a purgatory, where chats from unknown people suspected of being spam go. Telegram did not have this option until a few months ago.

However, the option is not active by default, but you must go to the Telegram settings and activate it. Also, it is not a retroactive option, so it will only filter the messages that reach you while the option is active.

To configure Telegram to automatically file messages from unknown people, you must go to the side panel of the application and enter Settings. Then go to Privacy and security and finally you will find the option Archive and mute, within the section New chats from strangers.

What this option does is simple: when you receive a new message from someone who is not in your contact list, you are not notified and it is not displayed in the main message list but is automatically archived. Archived messages are accessible, grouped, from the top of the chat list.

Hide archived chats

If you are distracted from unknown messages, you can hide the archived chats.

To do this, tap long on Archived Chats until a menu is displayed at the bottom. Choose Hide above the list and the archived chats will disappear from your chat list. To access them, you’ll need to slide your chats down.

This way, you’ve learned how to prevent strangers from texting you on Telegram.
