How to delete recent file history in Windows 10? Windows 10 brought many improvements. All these new features are aimed at improving the user experience and accessibility of the system. However, some people might not like some of the new features. A good example would be the Quick Access section found on the left side of Windows 10 File Explorer.

I’m sure you have seen it. It is the first thing that appears when you open File Explorer. This section shows the folders we use most often and the most recent files we have used. This will usually be very useful, as we will be able to quickly access these files. Even though, some people might not want to use it. For example, imagine a user who shares a computer with others and they all use the same account.

Luckily, Windows 10 offers us the option to clear the history of recent files. We’re going to explain how to do this task.

How to delete recent file history in Windows 10?

The task is really simple. We will open the File Explorer and click on File, it is located in the upper left corner. From the options that appear we will select “Change folder and search options.”

This way we will access the “Folder Options” menu. Here we won’t have to search much, since the option we are interested in is in the General tab. At the bottom of the screen, we will see the Privacy section. You will see a button that says “Delete.”

So we will click on Delete and, once the process is finished, click on OK. When you return to Windows 10 File Explorer you will see that the Recent Files section is empty.

How to disable this option?

To do this we should go back to Folder Options and look at the Privacy section. Here we have two options that we must uncheck:

  • Show recently used files in the Quick Access
  • Show frequently used folders in the Quick Access

Once we uncheck these two options we must click on OK. With this simple action, the recent file history will not be recorded in Quick Access.

This way you’ve learned how to delete recent file history in Windows 10 thanks to these easy steps.
