Uber has paused plans to launch in five of the seven new European markets it announced for 2026, according to the Financial Times. The countries placed on hold include Austria, Norway, and Greece.
The company confirmed its decision to the FT, stating that it seeks to focus on continued growth in existing markets following successful recent launches in Finland and Denmark. “We want to continue the momentum,” Uber said.
Another factor influencing this decision is Uber’s ongoing efforts to acquire Delivery Hero, which rejected a €10 billion takeover bid from Uber in May. An industry source indicated that delaying further expansion might help mitigate antitrust concerns regarding the potential acquisition, particularly as Delivery Hero provides services in several of the paused target countries.
