X has announced a $1 million fund to incentivize creators to increase live streaming activity on its platform over the next month. The company’s head of product, Nikita Bier, highlighted the initiative in recent posts on X, stating that details about the payout structure will be shared soon.
To facilitate this push, X has launched a new command center called Live Studio, designed to provide creators with tools necessary for live streaming. The Live Studio allows users to create streams, title them, and upload thumbnails before going live. Creators can also schedule streams for specific dates and times.
Accessibility features in Live Studio include options for stream visibility. Creators may restrict access to verified accounts, followers, or subscribers; alternatively, they can make their streams public to all X users. The platform also presents real-time statistics, including viewer comments, number of concurrent viewers, countries of origin, and device information used by viewers.
Live streaming on X is available exclusively to users with a $3 monthly X Premium subscription. The reliability of X’s live streaming infrastructure has faced scrutiny in recent years. In 2023, Ron DeSantis’s planned presidential announcement on X’s Spaces service was disrupted due to server issues. The following year, an interview between Elon Musk and President Trump also experienced a crash that rendered it inaccessible.
