Google announced on Monday that the Gemini app is now offering its personalized Nano Banana-powered image generation feature to all eligible users in the U.S. for free. This service was previously restricted to Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers.
The integration of Nano Banana-powered image generation into Gemini’s Personal Intelligence feature was initially announced in April. Users can generate images based on their personal interests without explicitly stating them in the prompt. Gemini leverages data from users’ Google account connections, including Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search, to generate these images.
For instance, users can simply request an illustration of “me and my favorite things” instead of listing out specific interests. Gemini can also access actual images from Google Photos, eliminating the need for manual uploads.
Personal Intelligence was made widely available to all U.S. users in March, and its functionality was recently expanded to users in India and Japan. This opt-in feature allows users to control which apps Gemini can access. Once activated, Personal Intelligence is the default setting for every prompt, but it can be turned off through a toggle in the Tools menu.
In addition, last month Google announced plans for several upcoming updates to the Gemini app, which include a “Daily Brief” feature, a redesigned interface, access to the AI video model Gemini Omni, and a personal AI agent called Gemini Spark. Earlier this year, Google’s AI chatbot Gemini surpassed 750 million monthly active users (MAUs).
