Figma has partnered with Anthropic and OpenAI to incorporate AI CLI tools like Claude Code and Codex into its design software. The company has introduced a new AI agent that operates within its collaborative canvas, enabling users to utilize natural language prompts for design-related tasks.
Users can direct the AI agent to generate new designs, edit existing ones, or automate tasks such as producing design iterations. Figma stated that multiple agents can operate simultaneously, each executing different tasks. The AI assistant is designed to understand design contexts by using models specifically fine-tuned for design applications.
Loredana Crisan, Figma’s chief design officer, emphasized the benefits of collaboration with AI agents, saying, “As building software gets easier, what matters most is setting direction: deciding what to work on, how it should function, what the experience should feel like. Teams can now collaborate with agents on the multiplayer canvas to test out ideas, visualize edge cases, and refine concepts together without over-indexing on the more tedious parts.”
The AI agent will initially launch in Figma Design, with plans for future implementation in other Figma products. The company aims to integrate design and code more closely within its applications over time.
Figma faces significant competition from firms such as Canva, Adobe, Flora, Krea, and Dessn. Last year, the company acquired the node-based design tool Weavy and has introduced new image-editing features to its suite of products.
Despite apprehensions regarding AI’s impact on designers’ roles, Figma’s financial performance remains strong. In the first quarter of 2026, the company reported a revenue of $333.4 million, a 46% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
