TikTok has launched a secret emoji game accessible through direct messages (DMs), allowing users to compete by bouncing across alligators.

The game aims to enhance user interaction within chats by incorporating a fun, competitive element. By engaging in this game, TikTok seeks to differentiate its messaging features amidst rising competition from other social media platforms.

Players navigate a series of alligators, aiming to bounce higher while avoiding skeleton alligators and broken alligators that disappear after one landing. Speed boosts are available by guiding jumps to floating emojis or landing on alligators with props. The game concludes when players fail to land on an alligator or land on a skeleton, with scores displayed in the top-right corner.

TikTok confirmed to TechCrunch on Tuesday that the game is available globally for one-on-one DMs and group chats. Users can access it by sending a single emoji in any chat, which then becomes the floating emoji offering boosts.

The initiative aligns with TikTok’s strategy to enhance user engagement and competition. The platform acknowledges that the game is similar to an emoji DM game introduced by Instagram two years prior. In Instagram’s version, players use a paddle to keep an emoji bouncing until it falls.

Furthermore, TikTok is not alone in exploring gaming features in messaging. Meta has indicated through TechCrunch that its platform Threads is developing a basketball game for DMs, allowing users to simulate shooting hoops through swiping actions.

TikTok’s recent feature demonstrates its ongoing commitment to innovate within chat functionalities, contributing to the broader trend of gamification in social media communications.
