Salesforce announced an updated version of Slack that incorporates advanced AI features, emphasizing a shift toward integrating artificial intelligence into its business framework. CEO Marc Benioff revealed the enhancements during a gathering in San Francisco, detailing the rollout of 30 new functionalities over the coming months.
The modifications aim to redefine Slack from merely a communication tool to a comprehensive platform for various business operations. Notably, the upgrade features reusable AI-skills, allowing users to establish specific tasks for Slackbot that can be applied across various scenarios. The implementation is designed to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency for enterprise users.
Since a prior update in January, Slackbot has gained capabilities such as drafting emails, scheduling meetings, and filtering inboxes for relevant information. Users can activate these AI-skills through simple commands, prompting the Slackbot to gather pertinent data from connected applications and channels to create actionable plans.
Slackbot now also acts as an MCP (Model Context Protocol) client, enabling it to integrate with external services and tools. This functionality includes routing inquiries to Agentforce, Salesforce’s AI agent development platform, to facilitate information flow without the need for human input.
Rob Seaman, Slack’s interim CEO, noted that the bot can now transcribe and summarize meetings, providing recaps and action lists for participants as needed. Furthermore, it can monitor desktop activities by analyzing data related to deals, conversations, and calendars, allowing it to generate context-specific suggestions or draft follow-up communications.
The underlying strategy seeks to position Slack as a critical component of enterprise workflows. Benioff highlighted the significant progress since Salesforce’s acquisition of Slack five years ago, citing a 2.5 times increase in revenue and noting that approximately a million businesses now utilize the platform.
