NVIDIA has launched DLSS 4.5 features aimed at enhancing frame rates for RTX 50 series graphics cards. The new capabilities include DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and DLSS 4.5 Multi Frame Generation 6X, which promise improved performance for high-refresh displays.
The introduction of DLSS 4.5 is significant for gamers using 4K 240Hz displays and those with 1080p and 1440p monitors capable of 360Hz. These enhancements focus on providing smoother path-traced gaming experiences while maintaining game responsiveness.
DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation functions like an automatic transmission for graphics cards, dynamically adjusting frame rates. This feature ensures that frame rates do not exceed the monitor’s native refresh rate, optimizing balance between refresh rate and image quality.
The DLSS 4.5 Multi Frame Generation 6X boosts frame generation by a maximum of six times, yielding up to five additional frames for each natively rendered frame. This technology can increase 4K frame rates by as much as 35%, with minimal impact on performance, according to NVIDIA.
These features employ AI to create interpolated intermediate frames instead of accelerating the native frame rate. However, some visual artifacts may occur, especially in scenes with intricate details such as rain or hair.
The DLSS 4.5 features are accessible for NVIDIA RTX 50 series cards and support several games, including 007 First Light, CONTROL Resonant, Directive 8020, and Tides of Annihilation.
