Crunchyroll is now available as a channel within the Apple TV app, allowing users to subscribe and stream anime directly through Apple’s platform without needing separate login credentials.
This integration marks a significant development for Crunchyroll, particularly following a $2 increase in subscription prices earlier this year, bringing the starting price to $10 per month. The move also reflects a strategic effort to enhance user accessibility amidst ongoing customer dissatisfaction regarding recent changes.
The subscription management occurs via the user’s Apple account, simplifying the process for subscribers. According to 9to5Mac, this is the first notable channel addition to the Apple TV app in an extended timeframe.
Fans have recently expressed frustration with Crunchyroll’s direction after the price hike. Last year, the company’s president discussed potential advancements in AI-generated subtitles, sparking interest before a controversy emerged.
Viewers discovered that some German subtitles for specific shows included the phrase “ChatGPT said…”. Crunchyroll attributed this issue to a third-party vendor and committed to addressing the problem.
