Rajesh Jha, Microsoft’s head of Experiences and Devices, announced his retirement after more than 35 years at the company. Jha will officially transition out of Microsoft on July 1 and will remain in an advisory role after that date. Microsoft will not appoint a direct replacement for Jha’s position.

Four executives from Jha’s team will be promoted to executive vice president and report directly to CEO Satya Nadella. This reorganization distributes Jha’s responsibilities across the Office, Windows, and Copilot business units. The move reflects a shift in Microsoft’s leadership structure rather than a single succession plan.

The promoted executives include Ryan Roslanksky, Pavan Davuluri, Charles Lamanna, and Perry Clarke. Roslanksky serves as Office EVP and LinkedIn CEO. Davuluri is the president of Windows and Surface.

Charles Lamanna is the president of business and industry Copilot. Perry Clarke is the chief of Microsoft 365 Core. These executives will lead their respective divisions under Nadella’s direct oversight.

Jha oversaw key products including Windows, Office, and Teams. He stated that he planned his succession alongside Nadella for a while. Jha described his long career at Microsoft as an “incredible privilege.”

Satya Nadella praised Jha’s leadership in a statement. Nadella said Jha stands firmly among the leaders who have shaped the company. Nadella added that Jha embodied the commitment that helped build and transform Microsoft.

Microsoft has seen other high-profile executive departures this year. Former Xbox chief Phil Spencer bowed out last month alongside his expected successor Sarah Bond. Jha’s retirement adds to the list of leadership changes at the company.
