Oukitel launched the WP63, a ruggedized smartphone featuring a built-in electric igniter, at MWC 2026. The device is marketed for emergency response and camping, designed to start fires when matches are unavailable. It measures 27mm thick and is priced around $500.
The phone includes a 20,000mAh battery, a loudspeaker, and a built-in USB-C cable for charging other devices. These specifications support extended outdoor use beyond the igniter function. The device is designed to serve as a multi-purpose tool for remote environments.
The electric igniter is hidden behind a protective cover at the top of the device. It activates via an app and heats up similar to car cigarette lighters from circa 1987. According to Engadget, an Oukitel spokesperson demonstrated the igniter by lighting rolled-up paper.
The spokesperson noted the process was gentle and seemingly in control. The paper used in the demonstration resembled a cigarette. The igniter is intended to start fires in outdoor settings.
Another Oukitel spokesperson stated the igniter cannot be used to light candles. The device is designed for rugged applications rather than delicate tasks. Oukitel is a manufacturer of ruggedized smartphones.
The WP63 is intended for emergency response and camping scenarios. The device is marketed as a tool for starting fires when matches are forgotten. The igniter represents a specific functional addition to a standard smartphone form factor.
