Lamborghini has cancelled plans to produce the Lanzador EV concept, a vehicle originally targeted for a 2029 launch. The decision was confirmed publicly by CEO Stephen Winkelmann, following a verdict made late last year. This marks a reversal from the concept’s reveal in August 2023.
Winkelmann cited a lack of customer demand as the primary reason, describing interest from the brand’s client base for battery-powered EVs as “close to zero.” He explained that electric vehicles in their current state struggle to deliver the “emotional connection” typical of Lamborghini cars, noting that the absence of engine noise contributed to this disconnect.
The manufacturer will replace the Lanzador with a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, joining the existing Revuelto and Urus models. By 2030, Lamborghini intends to transition its entire lineup to hybrid EVs. However, Winkelmann stated the company plans to continue manufacturing internal combustion engines “for as long as possible.” He indicated that a future all-electric Lamborghini remains possible but would only occur “when the time is right.”
