LinkedIn has launched a new feature allowing users to display proficiency levels with AI coding tools directly on their profiles. The platform partners with Replit, Lovable, Descript, and Relay.app to enable this capability. LinkedIn is also developing integrations with Microsoft-owned GitHub and Zapier.

Unlike traditional skill listings, where users self-report qualifications, this update lets the companies behind the AI tools assess users’ skills and assign proficiency ratings. These ratings appear automatically on LinkedIn profiles.

Screenshots shared by LinkedIn provide examples of the ratings. Lovable awards a “bronze” level in “vibe coding.” Replit uses numerical levels. Relay.app designates an “intermediate” level for AI Agent Builder.

The proficiency levels update dynamically as users gain more experience with the tools, according to LinkedIn.

The rollout occurs as companies use similar AI tools to automate tasks and conduct layoffs, affecting thousands of workers. This development highlights mixed sentiments among professionals regarding AI adoption.

Pat Whealan, LinkedIn’s head of career products, stated that AI-specific skills serve as an increasingly important signal for recruiters. The update aims to help recruiters assess candidates’ skills more easily.

Whealan emphasized that the feature complements existing profile signals. “This is less about replacing any of those other existing signals, and more about showing new ways that people are doing work,” he told Engadget. “And how do we give a verifiable signal to both hirers and other people looking at their profile, that they actually are using these tools on a regular basis.”

LinkedIn positions the feature as a way to highlight verifiable, regular use of AI coding tools in professional work.
