Yahoo has announced Yahoo Scout, a new AI-powered “answer engine” available now in beta. Powered by Anthropic’s Claude model, Scout synthesizes information from the web, Yahoo’s own data, and content to respond to natural-language search queries. Its interface features interactive digital media, structured lists and tables, and visible source links to facilitate verification. (Disclosure: Yahoo is the parent company of Engadget.)

Yahoo is also launching an “intelligence platform” that integrates AI features across its products. These include AI summaries in Yahoo Mail, “key takeaways” in Yahoo News, and game breakdowns in Yahoo Sports. Scout will integrate into Yahoo Shopping to provide insights and shoppable links. In Yahoo Finance, it will populate company financials, analyst ratings, and explain stock movements in real time.

The company states that the answer engine powering Scout will evolve to offer more personalized responses and deeper experiences.

Google first demonstrated generative AI in search in 2023, with its AI Mode for search becoming widely available in the U.S. last year. Google is integrating its AI model across products such as Gmail and shopping.
