Apple aims to transform Siri into an AI chatbot, integrating it into iOS 27, according to a report from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, with a possible unveiling at the June WWDC event.

The Siri chatbot, internally designated “Campos,” will process both voice and text commands. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president, previously articulated a preference for integrated AI over a chatbot format. This strategic shift follows increased pressure from the success of AI chatbots developed by competing companies.

OpenAI’s planned entry into the hardware sector, under the leadership of former Apple design chief Jony Ive, may also contribute to Apple’s revised AI strategy.

Apple has experienced delays in its AI development, including postponing a “more personalized Siri” rollout repeatedly. The company actively sought an AI partner in the past year, evaluating technologies from entities such as OpenAI and Anthropic. Apple ultimately selected Google’s Gemini as its AI partner, a collaboration confirmed by both firms earlier this month.
