Method 1: Unlocking the buttons
- Open the door carefully to access the buttons and stop the cycle. Avoid opening it enough that water sprays out, and use caution as the steam may be extremely hot. This applies to models like SHE4AM, SHE5AM, SHX3AM, SHE5AL, SHX5AL, SHSM63, SHS863, SHS843, SHVM63, SHV863, and SHX6AP, including Silence Plus 44 dBA and 42 dBA models.
- Hold the Start button for at least 3 seconds until the active light fades. The screen will flash “0:01” on most models, or the “Clean” indicator will flash to show setup mode. This works whether the cycle is running or stuck.
- Close the door and wait about 1 minute for the water to drain automatically. It may take longer if the machine was on a high-heat setting.
- Press the On/Off button to turn the dishwasher off, then press it again if needed on older models to start fresh. You can now program a new cycle.
Method 2: Hard resets and error codes
- Unplug the dishwasher and wait 2–3 minutes before plugging it back in. Pull the unit slightly from the wall to access the plug; this clears stored settings causing errors.
- If the plug is hard to reach, locate the dishwasher’s circuit breaker in your main electrical panel, flip it off, wait 2–3 minutes, then flip it back on.
- To fix an E-15 error, unplug the unit, pull it out from the wall, and tilt it gently side to side to drain water. Warning: If water appears on the floor, call Bosch at 1-800-944-2904 for service, as it indicates a leak.
