WhatsApp has released version 25.22.79 of its macOS application through the App Store, introducing a chat filtering feature for a limited number of users, according to an announcement made on August 26, 2025.
The update, as reported by WABetaInfo, brings chat filters to the top of the chat list, allowing users to sort conversations into “Unread,” “Favourites,” and “Groups” categories. This feature mirrors functionality already available on WhatsApp for iOS and Android platforms.
The “All” filter remains the default view, displaying all chats. Switching to the “Unread” filter shows only chats with unopened messages. The “Favourites” filter gives users the ability to mark specific contacts for easier access, while the “Groups” filter consolidates all group chats in one place.
Previously, macOS users needed to use a separate button to view unread messages. The new chat filters streamline navigation, reducing the steps required to find specific conversations. The rollout of the chat filter feature to more users will potentially continue in the coming weeks via updates from the App Store.
The WhatsApp for macOS 25.22.79 update requires a 21.7MB download.
In related news, WhatsApp is reportedly testing a “Record Voice Message” feature for unanswered calls on its Android and iOS apps. The company is also working on a “Writing Help” assistant to offer writing suggestions and is testing motion photo support.
