YouTube is expanding the availability of its experimental AI-powered search results carousel to a larger number of Premium subscribers in the United States. This feature, initially announced by Google in June, allows users to discover content more efficiently through AI-generated topic descriptions.
The carousel, an experimental feature, is accessible on both iOS and Android devices for Premium users in the US. It is slated to remain available until August 20, after which Google will evaluate a potential wider rollout to additional regions.
Functionally, the AI-powered search results carousel appears at the top of specific search results. It is particularly designed for queries related to shopping, travel, or local activities. When a user conducts such a search, the carousel displays a row of relevant videos, each accompanied by a brief, AI-generated description of its topic. For example, a search for “Best beaches in Hawaii” might present a curated selection of videos with concise summaries, enabling viewers to quickly access pertinent content without extensive scrolling.
Currently, this experimental feature is exclusively available within the YouTube mobile app and supports only English-language videos. It does not appear for every search query. Users interested in trying the feature can opt-in via the designated YouTube Premium New Features page. The trial’s success in the US will determine if YouTube expands this AI-powered discovery tool to other regions after the current testing period concludes later this month.
