Rumors indicate that Nintendo will announce details about the Nintendo Switch 2 on January 16, with speculation surrounding a more powerful GPU and a new ‘C’ button based on recent leaks.
Nintendo Switch 2 GPU specifications revealed
Multiple leaks have surfaced about the hardware specifications of the Nintendo Switch 2, particularly its GPU. According to a post by leaker ZachyCatGames on the Famiboards forums (via The Game Post), the Switch 2’s GPU clock speeds could reach or exceed 560 MHz when in portable mode.
For context, the GPU on the Valve Steam Deck operates at approximately 1.6 GHz and delivers about 1.6 TFLOPs of performance. If the claims are accurate, the Switch 2 might achieve around 1.72 TFLOPs in portable mode.
Additionally, ZachyCatGames reported that in docked mode, the Switch 2 could nearly double its performance with clock speeds reaching about 1,007.3 MHz, translating to approximately 3.09 TFLOPs. This performance would indicate a significant upgrade compared to the original Nintendo Switch, although still not quite reaching the capabilities of the PS4 or PS4 Pro.
Mysterious new ‘C’ button explained?
The leaks also lend some insight into the newly observed ‘C’ button found on alleged dummy units of the Nintendo Switch 2. While the specific function of the ‘C’ button remains unconfirmed, its inclusion has prompted speculation as to its purpose and relevance to the overall user experience.
As is common with leaks of this nature, it’s essential to approach these claims cautiously. The origins of these GPU figures are unclear, and the context of their presentation within the Famiboards forum suggests that some elements may be more tongue-in-cheek than definitive. Nevertheless, they contribute to the ongoing anticipation surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2’s release later this year.
