Rumors suggest that the upcoming successor to the third-generation iPhone SE, speculated to be released around March 2025, will be named the iPhone 16E, according to sources Fixed Focus Digital and Majin Bu.
Details on the iPhone 16E
The name iPhone 16E aligns with Apple’s existing naming conventions, following the introduction of the iPhone 16 series in September 2023. However, it remains uncertain whether the designation will use a capital E, a lowercase e, or possibly be formatted as iPhone 16 with an E in a square. There is also the possibility that Apple could retain the iPhone SE branding.
Both Fixed Focus Digital and Majin Bu have mixed track records with Apple-related leaks. Fixed Focus Digital noted that the iPhone 16 Pro models would feature a new bronze finish that was eventually revealed as Desert Titanium, though this color had been previously rumored. The account also misreported the number of color options for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models. The credibility of their claims regarding the iPhone SE’s successor will hinge on whether accurate details of the naming and design are confirmed.
The iPhone 16E is rumored to share a design similar to that of the base iPhone 14, which echoes the design of the base iPhone 16. The phone is expected to feature a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, a USB-C port, a single 48-megapixel rear camera, a newer A-series chip, and 8GB of RAM, which could enhance its capabilities for Apple Intelligence. Additionally, it is anticipated to introduce Apple’s first in-house 5G modem. The inclusion of an Action button, featured in the iPhone 15 Pro models, is still uncertain.
The current iPhone SE was announced during an online event in March 2022 and retains characteristics of the iPhone 8, such as a Touch ID button, Lightning port, and thick bezels surrounding the display. In the United States, the iPhone SE is priced starting at $429, and analysts anticipate a slight increase in cost for the next model.
