Everyone wonders about iOS 17 supported devices, and it makes totally sense. The bar is set high for iOS 17 and must be met. In 2022, with iOS 16, users finally got many long-awaited features. A battery percentage indicator and haptics to the default keyboard are minor but nice enhancements. iOS 16 also included lock screen personalization and lock screen widgets. Will iOS 17 meet expectations? According to iOS 17 rumors, the answer is yes. Don’t worry; we’ve gathered all the realistic rumors for you in this article too.

Although iOS 17 won’t be released for another four to five months, we may infer a few features and changes from Apple’s prior announcements and rumors. But first, we should find the answer to this question: “Which devices will get the iOS 17 update?”

The iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X may lose support with the update. After five years of support, iOS 16 has finally abandoned the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X may not be supported, but all iPhone XS models and after will. Below is a list of all the expected supported devices that will receive the upgrade:

  • iPhone 14 series
  • iPhone 13 series
  • iPhone 12 series
  • iPhone 11 series
  • iPhone XS and XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone SE 2020
  • iPhone SE 2022

We will update this part if there is an official announcement.

iOS 17 rumors

It’s still early, and we’ll likely learn more about additional improvements planned over the coming months, as iOS 17 is slated to be announced alongside iPadOS 17, macOS 14, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17 at Apple’s annual developer’s conference WWDC in June. But for now, these are the expected new features of iOS 17.

Alternative app stores

In order to comply with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, Apple was planning to allow “alternative app stores” on the iPhone. The rumored modifications would allow iPhone users to install programs outside of Apple’s App Store and would be implemented first in Europe.

According to reports, Apple hopes to release the modifications as part of an “upgrade to iOS 17,” which suggests that they may be introduced in a minor version such as iOS 17.1. In March 2024, the law will be in effect in its entirety.

Next-generation CarPlay

At WWDC 2022, Apple announced CarPlay 2.0, which supports multiple screens, widgets, and interaction with the vehicle’s climate controls, FM radio, and instrument cluster.

The first cars that can use Apple’s next-gen CarPlay experience will be unveiled in late 2023, and the linked iPhone will likely need to be running iOS 17 or later. Apple has listed a slew of dedicated automakers, including Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche, and Volvo.

Apple Headset support

Support for Apple’s anticipated augmented reality/virtual reality headgear is expected to be included in iOS 17 prior to its release this year. Apple may also announce other software solutions aimed at developers for the headset at WWDC.

Fewer changes

As a result of Apple’s focus on the “xrOS” operating system for its AR/VR headset, iOS 17 may include “fewer key changes than initially intended. It’s still early, so we haven’t heard anything about precise additions, but this may mean that iOS 17 will focus more on bug fixes and stability improvements.

iOS 17 release date

At Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2023, the company may reveal iOS 17, the next major update to iOS. On September 12, 2023, it is expected to be made available to the general public (Expected)
