When the next upgrade is implemented, Twitter’s earlier increase in the character limit for tweets from 140 to 280 will seem outdated. Not everyone is in favor of Elon Musk’s plans to significantly increase the number of characters that can be included in a single tweet, and he has confirmed that they are going through. As a microblogging tool, Twitter falls within the category of social media and concentrates on sending very brief messages as opposed to the longer ones you could see on competing networks like Facebook. Elon Musk replied to Twitter user @AllanObare4‘s request for 4000 character limit tweets:

Yes

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 11, 2022

Although the length is still excessively short, which is why tweet threads have become a prominent feature on the site. These brief messages compel users to eliminate the fluff from anything they want to convey and focus instead on the core of their topic. If Musk doesn’t alter his mind about increasing the character limit, the need for those threads and embarrassing photos of a mobile notes app with a longer message will soon be a thing of the past.

How will you tweet 4000 characters long?

On Monday, December 12, Twitter Blue will be back, allowing users to pay for a blue verification badge and other benefits not available to free users. In the midst of this, rumors spread that Twitter would boost the maximum character restriction for a tweet from 280 to an absurdly long 4,000 characters, allowing for the creation of lengthy messages.

Naturally, this will eliminate the necessity for lengthy tweet threads, but it also raises the possibility of an increase in the volume of obnoxiously long criticism on the site.

Twitter’s intention to lengthen tweets was revealed by Elon Musk in a straightforward message, but not everyone is happy about the development. Since Twitter is best recognized for its quick access to information, the option to publish longer tweets will allow users to express their feelings without using extraneous words.

Of course, there’s one significant query that has yet to receive an answer: would users who pay $8 a month for Blue have access to the 4,000-character limit or only those who do not? Twitter has not yet stated.

What else was included in Twitter Blue?

Other than confirming that you are the account owner, Twitter Blue includes a few other features. When you sign up for Twitter Blue for $8 a month (or $11 if you use an iPhone), you gain access to services like:

  • Personalized comments, responses, and searches relating to your account
  • 50% fewer advertisements than users that are not verified
  • Longer videos than those from unverified individuals
  • Editing your posts and posting videos with a resolution of 1080p
  • Pre-release access to Twitter’s beta features
  • Based on the kind of Twitter account you have, you receive a different checkmark color:
    • Personal – Blue
    • Government – Grey
    • Business – Gold

Twitter 2.0 plans

Elon Musk claimed in recent weeks that Twitter signups and active minutes are at an all-time high as he pushes out his Twitter 2.0 version of the platform. Musk published several slides from a speech he claimed to have given to the Twitter crew. The graphs and a few other features contained a description of his concept for Twitter 2.0. In Twitter 2.0 features such as:

  • Advertising as Entertainment
  • HD Video
  • Encrypted DMs
  • Long-form tweets
  • Relaunch of ”Blue”
  • Payments

presented to Twitter users.

We might see the 4000 characters Tweet feature with the release of Twitter 2.0

We think a 4000-character limit is exactly what a platform like Twitter needs. We have done much research to convey it to you on the platform before, and we think that being able to read long stories in one piece will be a great development for both users and us as reporters. We hope Twitter makes this feature available very soon. Thank you for reading our article on 4000 words tweets!
