Layoffs and hiring freezes are devastating the sector as a whole, and today we are going to go over Amazon and Apple hiring freeze that has been implemented.

Apple hiring freeze explained

It appears that Tim Cook meant precisely what everyone assumed when he said Apple‘s recruiting process was more “deliberate.” Almost no one believed Cook and, according to a new report, everyone was right not to believe him. Cook, Apple’s CEO, has described Apple’s hiring as more “deliberate” lately, but he would avoid ever saying that the company has undergone a hiring “freeze.”

Multiple insider sources claim that Apple has frozen recruiting across the majority of its divisions. The employment bans might last from a few weeks to as long as the conclusion of the business’ fiscal year in September 2023. Since Apple Retail requires the typical increase in seasonal personnel to meet the holiday demand, it looks that this division may be the only one of the business to dodge the hiring freeze in the near future. Even though all three insiders said that Apple was implementing employment freezes, the corporation is nonetheless following its “deliberate” strategy.

A spokesperson from Apple said, “we are continuing to hire but given the economic environment we’re taking a very deliberate approach in some parts of the business. We are very confident in Apple’s future and are investing for the long term. We want to be thoughtful and make smart decisions that enable us to continue fueling innovation for the long term.”

Apple has not set aside “no budget” for new manpower for corporate jobs in the upcoming year, according to one of the people with knowledge of the matter, despite what Apple has claimed. Another employee of the organization suggested that layoffs could be forthcoming by claiming that a senior divisional boss informed them that “budgets are under review.”

Tim Cook had alluded to the decision in Apple earnings conference earlier this year, saying that “We support investment during a downturn. As a result, we’ll keep hiring people and making investments in some places, but we’re being more careful about it now that we’re aware of the environmental realities.”

What about Amazon’s hiring freeze?

Amazon has halted hiring for its expanding advertising division. There won’t be any new roles created, but the corporation will keep filling open ones. The largest online retailer in the world, Amazon, recently reported mixed third-quarter profits and forecasted the worst fourth-quarter growth in company history.

On a teleconference with reporters on Thursday, Amazon’s chief financial officer, Brian Olsavsky, announced that the company will be making cuts, including halting employment in some companies and winding down goods and services. It’s significant that Amazon’s rapidly expanding ad unit has frozen recruiting because it shows that the firm is focusing more on profitability.

Despite not being Amazon’s primary business, advertising is one of its most rapidly expanding segments. After Google and Facebook parent, Meta, and by revenue, the advertising industry produced $31 billion in income in 2021, making it the third-largest digital advertising platform in the US.
