With Hepsiburada Smart by MIMEX, artificial intelligence, image processing technologies and digital sensors are combined with the smart market concept without payment points; customers complete their shopping in a few minutes by easily picking up their products and leaving the store without waiting in line at the cash register.

Hepsiburada adds a new one to the innovations it has implemented as a result of advanced technological research and development activities, with its smart store implementing the “shop-and-go” method which is a first in Turkey.

What is Hepsiburada Smart by MIMEX?

The Hepsiburada Smart by MIMEX shop-and-go concept was implemented with the incentive of approximately 2.2 million euros from the European Union Commission within the scope of Horizon 2020, one of the world’s largest R&D and innovation programs. The project, whose English abbreviation is ‘Micro Market Experience’, was developed in partnership with Hepsiburada, as well as four international companies operating in the fields of hardware, sensors, camera systems and smart shelves. There aren’t many stores with the “shop-and-go”  concept, however their main objective is to offer customers an easy, practical and fast shopping experience.

Enter the store, shop-and-go

In Hepsiburada Smart, where there is no physical payment point and all shopping-related transactions are carried out with the help of artificial intelligence, image processing and digital weight sensor technologies together.

In Hepsiburada Smart, which was opened with the slogan of “new generation smart shopping,” shopping starts with the application of the customer to read the QR code on the kiosk located at the entrance of the Hepsiburada Smart store. After that, all the customer has to do is enter the store and choose the products and leave.

With the help of new generation artificial intelligence, image processing and smart shelf technologies with weight sensors, the products purchased by the customers are instantly added to the virtual basket in the application, and the products left on the shelf are immediately removed from the basket. Customers who complete their shopping can leave the store without wasting any time and using any of the physical payment methods. Thus, the entire shopping process is completed in seconds.

A cost efficient method

The Hepsiburada Smart by MIMEX concept was developed in a two-year period as an international cooperation project, involving four teams from Italy and Spain, together with the Hepsiburada R&D team. Hepsiburada Smart was created by combining image processing, artificial intelligence and shelf sensor technologies developed by five project partners (Spindox-Italy, Metrica 6-Spain, Cefla-Italy, Fundizione Bruno Kessler-Italy, and Hepsiburada-Turkey). In addition to the artificial intelligence-based image processing technology used in the store, its efficiency and affordable store application costs distinguish Hepsiburada Smart by MIMEX from the few similar ones in the global retail technologies market.

Hepsiburada CEO Murat Emirdağ stated that they are very excited and happy to introduce Hepsiburada Smart by MIMEX to Turkey.

“We are happy to be the first company in Turkey to implement this concept, which has few examples in the world, that improves the shopping experience with artificial intelligence, carries the future of shopping to today, and has made another innovation in the digital transformation of commerce in Turkey. By establishing international partnerships, Hepsiburada’s R&D team demonstrates Turkey’s e-commerce experience and the talents of Turkish engineers in the international arena in the best way possible,” Emirdağ said.

“We are happy to represent Turkey in the global technology arena with the MIMEX technology we developed together with our partners within the scope of Horizon 2020, one of the world’s largest R&D and innovation programs, and with our innovations to date. As a technology power emerging from these lands and an international success story, Hepsiburada will continue to develop new global projects and innovate,” he added.

Hepsiburada Smart by MIMEX, whose futuristic architectural design was made by architect Sezer Bahtiyar from Architectural Strategies Atelier, will be opened to the use of customers in Istanbul Mecidiyeköy Trump AVM with FMCG products as of January 1, 2023.
