Unfortunately, people are started to sell r/Place NFTs. What started as a collaborative project turned into a modern art theft situation. Let’s explain what is r/place and why artwork from this project started appearing on OpenSea. The NFT community, which has long sought to profit at the expense of artists and projects, has now turned its attention toward the viral r/Place subreddit.

What is r/Place?

The r/Place subreddit is an online canvas where users from all across the world can collaborate to create amazing artwork.

The picture may be changed at any moment, as anyone has the option to modify pixels on the canvas at will, albeit not much to prevent trolls from tearing it apart.

Streamers and content producers have used the past few broadcasts to analyze the numerous pictures that have been posted on r/Place.

Some people are taking screenshots and selling particular artworks as r/place NFTs.

r/Place NFTs are being sold at OpenSea

Over the last several days, a few artworks that appear to be taken from r/Place have appeared on sites like OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace.

On the One Piece subreddit, where users can discuss everything related to the long-running anime and manga series, user FrostDesigns discovered their Roger art being sold for a $300 deposit.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated occurrence. A quick look through the OpenSea site will turn up several more examples of works from the co-creation being sold for profit.

This is all the more inexcusable given that users may only influence a pixel of the entire painting at a time. The amount of coordination and commitment it takes for whole communities to create a single artwork is unpredictable.

It’s also worth noting that the entire endeavor is completely motivated by a desire to immortalize anything they want to in r/Place, with no financial gain being made despite the amount of time invested.

We hope OpenSea targets these individuals who are seeking to profit from the massive collaboration of hundreds of users by converting r/Place artwork into NFTs.
