Today we were able to learn an important piece of data through a report, the average size of iPhone games has increased by 76% in the last 5 years. As the years have passed, the storage space of the iPhone has been increasing because also the apps and the quality of photos/videos are improving.

According to analysis, the average size of the 100 most downloaded games in the U.S App Store, over the last 5 years, has increased by an average of 76%. Not even counting the additional downloads.

In that report, we can read: “The average game file size in 2016 stood at approximately 264MB, and has increased by 76 percent over the last five years to nearly 465MB in 2020. Last year saw a particularly significant yearly rise, growing by 30.3 percent year-over-year. The median, meanwhile, has risen by 102.6 percent over the last five years from about 147MB in 2016 to almost 299MB in 2020. Last year saw a rise of 18.7 percent Y/Y, which was slower than seen in previous years.”

The increase in the space taken up by games is driven by the expansion in storage space on iPhones, as this allows developers to deliver higher quality graphical content while taking advantage of the device’s storage.

Of the 100 most downloaded games in the US App Store, the most downloaded was Roblox, which occupies 222MB. The largest title ranked in the top 100 most downloaded was CSR Racing 2, with nearly covering 4GB of space.

When Fortnite was available on the App Store, the space it took up, once additional content was downloaded from its servers, was dangerously close to 6GB. Call of Duty and PUBG Mobile takes up about 3GB. This space varies depending on the device and whether it is an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
