Microsoft has announced that the Windows 10 May 2020 Update is now available, we explain how to install it in this article.

The wait is over. As usual, the first major Windows 10 update of the year has been delayed, this time due to a zero-day exploit that Redmond’s decided to patch before releasing the new version of the operating system.

Initially, its arrival was scheduled for May 12, but the company moved the launch date to the end of the month to ensure its stability. The rumors placed the update between May 26 and 28 , and they have turned out to be accurate.

Through an  official blog post, Microsoft has announced the availability of Windows 10 2004, the official name given to the new version of the operating system.

In the statement, the company explains that it will release the update in a phased manner to ensure that the deployment occurs properly. Due to this, in these first moments devices that run builds 1903 and 1909 of the operating system that manually search for the update through Windows Update will be able to download and install Windows 10 May 2020 Update.

How to check which Windows 10 version you have?

If you are not sure what version of Windows 10 you have installed, check it in Settings> System> About .

In case your computer has one of the mentioned builds, you can download and install the Windows 10 May 2020 update.

How to install Windows 10 May 2020 (20H1) Update?

Follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings> Update & security> Windows Update and select Check for updates.
  • The system will indicate that the Windows 10 Build 2004 update is available.
  • Click the Download and Install button and wait for the process to complete.
  • If you don’t see the Download and Install button, don’t worry: Microsoft explains that this is because your device has a compatibility issue that will be resolved shortly or because of security issues to ensure you have a good user experience.

At the moment users have not reported problems with the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, but in view of the experience on previous occasions, it is best to wait a few days before updating to avoid problems.
