Netflix tests an audio-only mode according to some leaks. Netflix is one of the most widely used video streaming platforms in the world with thousands of series and films to be watched on numerous devices. But the company is looking beyond and adding new features.

Netflix has a new idea to bring content to screen-free devices. As discovered in the latest beta of the application, they are testing an “audio-only” mode for listening to the movies and series.

  • Netflix released a trailer for The Midnight Sky: Starring George Clooney
  • Netflix announced a live-action Assassin’s Creed series
  • Netflix prepares for the threat of a new global lockdown

This discovery is made in version 7.79.1 of the Netflix app for Android, some codes revealed this feature. At the moment it is only a test, but it seems like Netflix is working on it.

Does audio-only mode in Netflix make sense?

In theory, this Netflix “audio-only” mode would allow us to listen to series and movies without the need to watch a screen, similar to a podcast or radio program. We could play the content with the mobile screen turned off saving data by not having to load the video.

It is true that this genre is gaining a lot of popularity, but it is not clear that you can follow the plot of a series or movie if you remove the visual content. We would lack a lot of information. But probably, Netflix will bring podcast series too. Let’s be honest, how many people would want to listen to a movie without its visual content?

However, if Netflix creates special content (like podcasts), we could enjoy Netflix when we are in the car, taking a walk or in other situations where we cannot look at a screen.

Netflix tests an audio-only mode according to some leaks. There is no official date for the arrival of this new feature. We don’t know if it will be compatible with all Netflix content. For now, it’s just a test.
