Warner Music Group announced plans to acquire Sureel AI, a company focused on monitoring the use of music by artificial intelligence models. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Sureel AI will continue to operate as an independent platform after the acquisition.

Sureel AI’s technology analyzes songs by breaking them into smaller components, known as AI DNA. This system enables the technical monitoring of whether parts of a song, such as melody, vocals, or rhythm, are being used by AI models or if similar content is being generated. The initiative aims to clarify how songs are utilized by AI.

For Warner Music, this technology is critical for detecting unauthorized use of artists’ works in AI training and for tracking the similarity of AI-generated songs to original compositions. The company seeks to reduce copyright infringement risks and facilitate more accurate licensing of revenues from AI-generated content in the future.

Additionally, Sureel AI offers a monitoring system that encompasses not only songs but also tracks artists’ voices, images, and styles. This tracking assists in monitoring permitted uses of technologies, including voice cloning, AI avatars, and style imitation. The initiative aims to address the growing concerns around deepfake voices and AI-generated content within the music industry.
