Google’s “Ask Gemini in Drive” feature has expanded its capabilities to include Gmail as a source for queries, enhancing the tool for eligible subscribers. Originally announced in March, this feature now allows users to request AI assistance with information across Gmail threads, Drive folders, and files.
Eligible users include Google Workspace, AI Pro, and Ultra subscribers, as well as Business and Enterprise customers. To access the feature, users must select Gmail from the source options in the left pane and click the “Ask Gemini” button located at the top right of the interface.
This new functionality enables users to ask targeted questions, such as “find the email where I received approval for the Jenkins project.” The AI is designed to assist with high-context, multi-turn conversations to help users efficiently explore and understand their content.
Google aims for the feature to provide accurate and relevant answers by consolidating information across emails, files, and folders. It is now out of beta and is generally available to eligible Workspace and Google AI plans, according to the company’s Workspace Updates blog.
