Apple announced that apps distributed in Texas must comply with age verification requirements under state law SB 2420, effective tomorrow. New Apple Accounts in Texas will need to verify the ages of users. A parent or guardian must provide consent for minors when downloading apps, significant updates, or making in-app purchases.
Developers are also required to support the ability for parents or guardians to revoke consent at any time. The Texas measure SB 2420 was signed into law last May, but legal challenges postponed its initial effective date of January 1. Apple has previously started implementing age verification for iCloud accounts in the UK since March.
