Randy Pitchford, co-founder of Gearbox Software, reported that a friend discovered an unannounced Google Pixel Watch 5 while scuba diving in the Caribbean Sea near St. Martin. The back of the watch indicated it is a Google Pixel Watch 5, which has not yet been officially announced or released.
Pitchford noted that the device appeared to be in decent condition, with a drained battery but still able to display the time. He stated that his friend sought his assistance in returning the watch to its owner, believing Pitchford’s connections in the tech industry could help.
He shared photos of the watch, which bore “Google” and “Pixel Watch 5” printed on its back, along with details of a heart-rate sensor and an ultra-wideband chip. The watch resembles the bubble-style design of the Pixel Watch 4.
Uncertainty remains over whether this device is indeed a legitimate Pixel Watch 5 or a counterfeit. Kotaku emphasized that it seems unlikely Google would involve Pitchford in a leak as part of any marketing strategy.
This incident is viewed as one of the most bizarre product leaks in recent memory. Google is expected to announce the Pixel Watch 5 at its annual Pixel event in August or September.
