Microsoft has announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, which it describes as the most powerful Surface device to date, utilizing NVIDIA’s RTX Spark system-on-a-chip for enhanced graphics and AI performance. The new laptop features a 15-inch display, positioning it as a direct competitor to Apple’s MacBook Pro.
The Surface Laptop Ultra includes NVIDIA’s RTX Spark, which boasts 6,144 Blackwell GPU cores and 20 Arm CPU cores. According to NVIDIA, the device offers 1 petaflop of AI performance and graphics capabilities similar to the RTX 5070 laptop GPU, with power consumption varying from single digits to a maximum of 80 watts.
The laptop incorporates a 15-inch MiniLED Ultra screen with a peak HDR brightness of up to 2,000 nits and features the largest trackpad that Microsoft has created. It includes various ports, including USB A and C, HDMI, and a full-sized card reader. The Surface Laptop Ultra weighs under 4.5 pounds and is offered in black and dark silver finishes.
Andrew Hill, Microsoft’s Corporate VP of Surface, stated, “This is the most powerful thing we’ve ever made.” Brett Ostrum, Microsoft CVP, expressed enthusiasm for the product, saying it should push boundaries and achieve the impossible.
Microsoft has not yet disclosed pricing information for the Surface Laptop Ultra. The company indicates the device is expected to be available this fall.
