Anthropic plans to more than double its revenue to approximately $10.9 billion in its second quarter and achieve an operating profit for the first time, according to the Wall Street Journal. This financial milestone marks significant quarter-over-quarter growth and positions the company advantageously compared to its main competitor, OpenAI. However, the Journal reports that profitability may be difficult to sustain throughout the year due to anticipated high compute costs.

The financial details were presented to investors as part of a recent funding round. Over the past year, Anthropic has gained traction, particularly with the popularity of its chatbot, Claude. The company is also diversifying its customer base by launching a new service targeting small business owners and implementing new tools for law firms.

This announcement regarding Anthropic’s potential profitability coincided with reports that OpenAI may file for its initial public offering soon. Anthropic declined to comment further on the reports.
