Netflix has launched a new studio called INKubator to focus on creating generative AI content, specifically short-form animated content using AI workflows and tools, according to The Verge. The studio’s establishment comes as part of Netflix’s strategy to embrace artificial intelligence in content production.

Currently, INKubator is in the hiring phase and still seeks critical roles, including a head of technology. Consequently, viewers may not see any content produced by INKubator for some time. The initial aim is to create animated shorts and specials, though job listings indicate that the studio may eventually expand its output to include longer-form content.

This move aligns with Netflix’s history of integrating AI into its operations. The company has already employed AI technology in its advertising efforts and acquired InterPositive, an AI startup founded by Ben Affleck. The growing focus on vertical video for Netflix’s mobile app is also likely to serve as an ideal platform for distributing generative AI content from INKubator.
