Dua Lipa is suing Samsung for $15 million, alleging that the company used her likeness to sell televisions without permission or compensation. The lawsuit accuses Samsung of copyright and trademark infringement, as well as “unauthorized commercial exploitation,” according to Variety.
The complaint arises from Samsung using an image of Lipa’s face on cardboard packaging for TVs in 2024. Lipa became aware of the usage in June 2025 and repeatedly demanded that Samsung cease using her image. However, the lawsuit claims Samsung’s responses were “dismissive and callous,” and the packaging featuring her likeness continues to be sold, despite her objections.
Lipa’s legal team stated that Samsung profited from the unauthorized use of her image, misleading consumers into believing that she endorsed the product. The complaint includes references to social media posts suggesting that the presence of Lipa’s image on the packaging influenced customers’ purchasing decisions.
“Samsung’s infringing conduct makes a mockery of [Lipa’s] hard work in establishing a successful brand and has deprived her of the ability to control and monetize her assets,” the lawsuit asserts.
In addition to the financial claims, Lipa owns the copyright to the photograph used, which was taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024. This legal action comes after Samsung faced prior legal scrutiny; in December, the Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the company along with four other TV manufacturers for using ad-targeting spyware on their devices.
Samsung has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding Lipa’s lawsuit.
