Perplexity has made its AI assistant, Personal Computer, accessible to all Mac users, shifting from its previous exclusivity to subscribers of its $200 per month Max plan. The expansion, announced recently, allows users to download the new Perplexity macOS app for everyday tasks, including queries, attachments, and dictation.

Usage of Personal Computer is linked to the credit limits of Pro and Max plans, according to the company. The assistant can manage tasks involving local files, other applications, the web, and Perplexity’s servers. It utilizes various models for specific tasks, including Gemini for deep research, Nano Banana for image processing, and ChatGPT for long-context recall and wide searches.

Perplexity noted that Personal Computer primarily operates in the cloud to alleviate performance strain on Mac devices. Users can run the assistant continuously on a Mac mini, similar to the implementation of other tools like OpenClaw, and control it remotely via an iPhone. The company emphasized that the assistant’s actions are auditable and reversible, which helps mitigate the risk of accidental data loss, such as inadvertently deleting important family photos.
