Microsoft announced changes to Windows Update, allowing users to indefinitely pause updates for 35 days at a time.

This update aims to provide users with greater control over their update experience, addressing concerns regarding disruptions caused by unanticipated updates during critical tasks.

Users can extend update pauses as often as they like. Once the 35-day pause period is set, no update notifications will appear, giving users uninterrupted time until they choose to install updates, which often include important security upgrades.

Aria Hanson from Microsoft stated that these changes were implemented based on user feedback about the “disruption caused by untimely updates and not enough control over when updates happen.”

Additionally, users will have the option to shut down or restart their Windows 11 devices without activating update installations. This enhancement follows a previous update allowing users to skip updates during the initial setup of new Windows devices.

The new Windows Update features are currently being rolled out to participants in the Windows Insider program, specifically to those in the Dev and Experimental Channels.
