Instagram has launched new artificial intelligence tools that allow users to generate video clips from text prompts directly in-stream via a feature called Edits. Users can tap on the plus icon, select the AI option, and enter a description for their desired video clip, potentially reshaping content creation on the platform.

This development aims to facilitate creative expression without the need for users to record video content. However, there are concerns about an influx of low-quality AI-generated content on Instagram. Meta has committed hundreds of billions of dollars to the development of generative AI technologies.

Meta disclosed that video content generated within its Meta AI app tripled year-over-year in Q4 2025. This figure may be influenced by the introduction of the Vibes feed, which features AI-generated video clips, subsequently increasing user engagement with AI tools. In February, Meta launched a separate Vibes AI video app in Mexico and Brazil, highlighting its interest in AI video content.

While some may view this integration as an evolution of the creative process, others argue that it diverges from Instagram’s original intent. The true impact of AI-generated content on Instagram’s feeds remains uncertain as Meta seeks to incorporate more AI-driven features into its offerings.

“You can generate a video clip from a text prompt, picture or video by using AI on Edits,” Instagram stated, emphasizing the integration’s ease of use. As more AI content is introduced, the platform may face challenges balancing quality and user expectations.
