Meta announced price increases for its virtual reality headsets, effective April 19, due to rising memory chip costs. The Meta Quest 3S (128GB) will increase by $50 to $349.99, while the 256GB model will also climb $50 to $449.99. The price of the Meta Quest 3 will rise by $100 to $599.99.
The company stated that the adjustments reflect significant increases in the cost of building high-performance VR hardware. This trend highlights broader market pressures, as escalating prices of critical components, particularly memory chips, impact consumer electronics.
Updated pricing will extend to Meta Quest refurbished units, but the company confirmed that all Meta Quest accessories will remain at current prices. “We’re making this change because the cost of building high-performance VR hardware has risen significantly,” Meta wrote in its blog post.
Meta joins other technology firms such as Samsung, Microsoft, and Sony in implementing price hikes in response to the ongoing RAM shortage affecting the industry.
