Google announced the global rollout of its upgraded Google app for desktop on Windows. The new app incorporates AI-powered Search features that enhance the user experience directly on PCs.

The upgraded app integrates AI Mode in Search, allowing users to ask questions and receive contextual responses without opening a browser. This system-wide search experience can be accessed via the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut and enables searches across the web, local files, installed apps, and Google Drive content.

AI Mode facilitates a more interactive search experience, where users can engage in follow-up queries. This feature aims to provide immediate, AI-generated responses alongside relevant web links, making the search process more conversational.

The app includes screen-aware capabilities, enabling users to ask questions based on what they are currently viewing on their screens. Additionally, Google Lens is integrated, which allows users to search, translate, or analyze on-screen content, including text from images or web pages.

According to the company, the app is designed to minimize interruptions. Users can access search and AI tools without switching tabs or applications, allowing for a seamless workflow.

To use the app, users must be 13 years or older and have a Windows 10 or later PC. Currently, the app is available only in English. Google also noted that AI Mode may not yet support all accounts, regions, or languages.
