OpenAI has introduced a new Pro plan priced at $100 per month for ChatGPT users, offering higher usage limits and catering to those who exceed their usage on the $20-a-month Plus plan.

This plan provides a solution for users who previously faced the dilemma of waiting for a reset or upgrading to the $200-a-month Pro plan. The company stated that this new tier aims to assist users seeking more time for coding without incurring significantly higher costs.

The new Pro plan features Codex usage limits that are five times higher than those of the Plus plan, and it includes access to all features from the $200-a-month Pro tier, such as unlimited access to the ChatGPT Pro model and the Instant and Thinking models.

OpenAI noted a surge in popularity for AI coding tools, particularly highlighting that Codex usage has increased by over 70% month-over-month. The announcement aligns with a broader trend in the AI sector, as tools for coding and app development become increasingly indispensable.

In comparison, the $200-a-month Pro plan offers usage limits that are 20 times greater than the Plus plan. Anthropic’s Claude AI provides similar subscription options, with pricing structures designed to match OpenAI’s offering.

The introduction of the Pro plan addresses a significant gap for users who require more robust coding capabilities without the excessively high costs of the existing plans, as AI-generated coding typically consumes more tokens than standard text interactions.
