Jay Blahnik, Apple’s Fitness chief for nearly 13 years, announced his retirement effective July. Blahnik cited his reasons for leaving as a desire to spend time with family and to relocate to New York City.

His retirement comes less than a year after allegations surfaced regarding his conduct towards employees, including claims of being “verbally abusive, manipulative, and inappropriate.” The broader implications of these claims have raised concerns about workplace culture at Apple.

Approximately 10 out of the 100 employees under Blahnik’s leadership sought extended leaves of absence for mental health concerns since 2022. One employee filed a lawsuit against Blahnik and Apple for bullying, with the trial scheduled for 2027. Reports indicate that Apple settled another sexual harassment complaint against him.

An internal investigation conducted by Apple found no evidence of wrongdoing by Blahnik despite multiple complaints from employees. Those employees expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the company prioritized protecting Blahnik’s reputation over addressing their grievances.

During his tenure, Blahnik oversaw the Fitness+ subscription service and played a key role in developing Apple Watch’s fitness features and activity rings. His leadership significantly shaped Apple’s fitness offerings.
